Ruth Ivy Thomas

Ruth Ivy Thomas, 88, died August 18, 2026. Born February 27, 1938, Ruth lived in Wichita Falls, Texas, and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Her life reflected steady devotion and a tireless work ethic—qualities that shaped both her home and her calling in education.

Ruth was a graduate of Hardin Simmons University, earning a bachelor’s degree in education. She began her teaching career in Electra, later taught at Rider High School, and finished her career teaching Vocational Office Education at Carrigan Center. Across the years, she brought consistency, purpose, and care to her students and colleagues, giving her best to the work entrusted to her.

On August 10, 1963, Ruth married Royce Thomas in Vernon, TX, and they spent 43 years together. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, and together they experienced several countries around the world—time marked by shared experiences.

Ruth was proud of her grandchildren and the close friendships she had throughout her life. In her last years, the staff at Presbyterian Manor provided her with exceptional care and helped her maintain the best quality of life possible, a kindness her family remembers with sincere gratitude.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Susan Mallonee and husband Ron; and grandsons Collin and Connor Mallonee. She was preceded in death by her husband Royce Thomas; parents O.R. and Annele Ivy; sisters Barbara Hailey and Fay Underwood; and brother Don Ivy.
