Samethea Scherff

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday, November 4, 2013, in the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home with Mr. Larry Suttle, Minister of Tenth and Broad Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton Vaughan. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 5:30 Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

Samethea was born June 22, 1920 in Joshua, Texas to the late Samuel and Mattie (Valentine) Roddy. On December 9, 1949 she married Louis A. Scherff in Wichita Falls.

A long time resident of Wichita Falls, she graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1937 as a member of the National Honor Society and Hardin Junior College in 1939.

In 1941, she worked as a secretary in Washington DC and later transferred to Kansas City, MO where she also volunteered as a nurses aide for the Red Cross war effort. She returned to Wichita Falls and worked at First National Bank for several years after WWII.

She loved to read and travel. Her travels included trips around the United States, Canada, Panama and Europe. Samethea was active in the Tenth and Broad Church of Christ and taught Sunday school for two year olds.

Mrs. Scherff was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Scherff, and her grandson Greg Scherff. Survivors include her sons Roddy L. Scherff of Valley Springs, California and Carter C. Scherff and wife, Sandra of Lexington, Texas; grandchildren Tara Henderson, Debra Simpson and Samuel Scherff; and 15 great grandchildren.
