Steven, lovingly known as “Steve” or “Papa,” passed peacefully in the presence of his family and is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father. The family finds peace in knowing that he is with Jesus and reunited with his wife, parents, and sons.
Steve was born August 14, 1948, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, to W.L. Burns and Doris Dulaney. He married the love of his life, Brenda, in Belleville, Illinois, on April 18, 1971. Together, Steve and Brenda had five children and ten grandchildren, whom they loved deeply. He loved his wife wholeheartedly and kept her memory alive after her passing. The many stories of their love will never be forgotten and forever shared. Not only was he a father, husband, son, brother, and grandfather, but Steve was also a Veteran in the U.S. Navy. He made many sacrifices, one of the greatest being for our country. He was also very passionate about HVAC, working in the industry for over 50 years and owning his own company, where his son worked alongside him.
One of the things Steve will be remembered for is his role as a grandfather. He loved all of his grandchildren immensely and never hesitated to tell them how proud he was of them. A grandparent is a different kind of love, and it was known that he would do anything for his grandchildren. His love for them was never questioned or doubted, and his presence never went unnoticed. His grandchildren will remember him for his fierce love, infectious smile, warm hugs, and amazing sense of humor.
To his family, Steve is seen as one of the strongest men in their lives. He faced great difficulty, but he never gave up and continued to provide and be present for his family. To his children, he was a father who made many sacrifices and never missed an opportunity to make those around him laugh. He taught his children the importance of hard work and honesty– not only by his words, but also through his actions. His children will forever cherish and remember the memories shared and the lessons learned.
To his brother, Steve provided invaluable lessons on how to and how not to live his life. It is difficult to summarize a lifelong relationship with your sibling, but his brother Scott says Steve’s example helped him in ways that are hard to describe. The two loved each other and were both eternally grateful to have one another in their lives.
Steve is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda, parents, and two sons, Andy and Steven Jr.
He is survived by his children, Shannon Hughes, Stephanie Rollo and husband Clay, and Shawn Burns and wife Crystal; grandchildren, Blaine Burns, Brent Burns, Brandon Rollo, Bayleigh Rollo, Kylie Burns, Berkley Rollo, Brooke Burns, Brogan Burns, Brynlee Rollo, and Breely Rollo; and his brother Scott Dulaney.
A Committal Service will be held at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park, 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX 76302, US, on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 10:00 am.
