Thomas Lasater Allensworth was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on March 29, 1957 to Lt. Col. H.L. Allensworth and Martha Wilson Allensworth and passed from this life on January 10, 2013. He grew up beloved, the youngest of five close siblings, and attended Fain Elementary, Barwise Junior High and Rider High School (‘75). After graduation, he attended Midwestern University, stopping only to become a naval cryptologic technician for 3 years before returning to Wichita Falls to complete his studies. He earned his BA in History from Midwestern in 1982.
Thomas then attended Texas Tech School of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctorate in May of 1985. He worked as the Senior Assistant City Attorney for the City of Grand Prairie for 10 years prior to coming home to Wichita Falls to set up his own law practice with his childhood friend, Reginald R. Wilson. Thomas enjoyed the law and worked as a criminal defense attorney for the rest of his life. Reggie and Thomas shared their office while maintaining their separate law practices and their friendship which lasted over 50 years.
More than anything, Thomas was a true student of history with an encyclopedic knowledge of European and American history. He was also an intellectual, a great wit, and an exceptionally gifted writer. Many of his legal briefs include a wide range of humor, satire, sarcasm, punditry, and unique quotations and footnotes.
Thomas was a devoted father and loving brother who will forever be missed. He is survived by his daughter, Alexandra Sarah Allensworth and son, Ian Lasater Allensworth of Arlingon, Texas, and his four siblings, William Allensworth, Dr. Robert Allensworth, and Elizabeth Allensworth George of Austin, Texas and John Allensworth of Asheville, NC, their respective wives and husband, and his nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints’ Anglican Episcopal Church, 2606 Southwest Parkway. May his memory be eternal.
