Vada Oswald

Vada Oswald, 89, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on August 27, 2026. Born July 29, 1937, in Keeter, Texas, Vada was the daughter of Samuel and Ina Mercer and was raised on a dairy farm, where steady work and perseverance were simply part of daily life.

Vada graduated from Boyd High School in 1955 and later attended Beauty School in Fort Worth. It was in Fort Worth that she met Robert Oswald, and the two were married on November 21, 1956. Together, they built a life centered on devotion to family, raising two children: a daughter, Cathy, and a son, Robert.

Throughout her life, Vada carried herself with a quiet strength—meeting each season with resolve, and each challenge with the kind of resilience that does not seek attention, yet leaves a lasting impression. She also held an open-hearted sense of adventure, embracing new chapters as they came and making a home wherever life led.

Vada found comfort and joy in simple, faithful pleasures: working in her garden and listening to country music. She was also a long-time member of The Church of Christ, where her enduring commitment reflected a life shaped by constancy, service, and belief.

Vada was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her sister, Gloria Jean Davidson; and her brother, Samuel Rufus Mercer Jr.

Vada is survived by her daughter, Cathy and husband Dean Barrett; her son, Robert and wife Linda Oswald; four grandchildren, Brooke and husband William Hamilton, David Barrett and wife Annieky Yip, Elizabeth Barrett, and Trey Oswald; and three great-grandchildren.
