

Classen, Albert H., 89, retired IBEW Union 271 electrician passed away May 28, 2014. Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Ediger Classen and son, Albert James “Jim” Classen. He is survived by his son, Ronald E. Classen; daughter, Marcene L. Classen; sister, Elsie S. Goertzen; grandchildren, Allen J. (Michelle) Classen, Kelly L. (Pedro) Meza, Kayla B. (Austin) Doyle; 8 great grandchildren; companions, Cheryl Fletcher and Richard Johnson. Visitation is 2 to 4 pm Sunday at Resthaven Mortuary. Graveside service is 9:00 am Monday at Inman North Cemetery. Memorial service is 11:00 am Monday, June 2 at First Mennonite Brethren Church. Memorials may be sent to Susan G. Komen, 3243 E. Albert H Classen was born on December 23, 1924 in Meade County, Kansas. Born to Henry R. Classen and Sara S. Friesen Classen. He had 6 brothers and 6 sisters: Bernhard, Margaret, Katherine, Frank, Isaac, Helen, Henry, Agnes, Sam, Bertha, Herman, Elsie. Albert was the 10th child of 13.
Growing up Albert enjoyed riding his horse, Sally, and hanging with the local boys. Albert attended school at the formal school in Meade KS. He worked for his father farming. Albert found Jesus as a young man and was baptized in Hillsboro, KS.
Albert married Bertha Ediger on April 27 1947. They were married in the Bethel Mennonite Church in Inman, KS. They moved to Meade, KS where they farmed until 1955. They then moved to Wichita where he became a Journeyman electrician and worked for Classen Electric with his brother Ike and joined the local 271 IBEW union in 1969. They had three children, Ronald Eugene born in 1948, Albert James (Jim) born in 1953 and Marcene Louane born in 1957. Tragically on June 17, 1970 Jim was killed in a motorcycle accident. They have three grandchildren Allen James Classen (Michelle) Kelly Lynn Meza (Pedro) and Kayla Brooke Doyle (Austin). They have 8 great grandchildren with one on the way.
Albert and Bertha started Classen Rentals in 1976. He enjoyed buying houses and remodeling them to rent them out. The business allowed them to work together.
After he retired, Albert enjoyed traveling with Good Sam’s and Air Con. Albert and Bertha had a motor home and traveled the United States. Albert played a mean game of dominos and also enjoyed playing washers. He was a great cook making our favorites, pancakes, chili and green bean soup. He loved being outdoors on his scooter with the great grandkids running around him.
Albert is survived by son Ronald, daughter Marcene all of Wichita, sister Elsie Goertzen of Henderson NE. three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren
