

Alfred John Winter, affectionately known as John, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 82.
Born in Evansville, Indiana, to Reverend Alfred Frank Winter and Dorothy Ann Winter (née Grother), John was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. He attended Redeemer Lutheran School and North High School in Evansville, later studying Industrial Arts Education at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
John proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1977, achieving the rank of Captain. He was a member of the 995th Maintenance Division of the Kansas National Guard, which was activated during the Vietnam War. He completed Officer Candidate School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, earning a letter of commendation for his exemplary service.
Professionally, John dedicated his career to Jobbers Automotive Warehouse in Wichita, Kansas. He began by covering a western Kansas territory, forming lasting friendships with his customers. He eventually rose to become President of the company, retiring after many years of leadership and service.
John had a lifelong passion for cars and drag racing. He and his wife Debbi enjoyed traveling, golfing, yardwork, and spending time with friends and family. He was known for his warmth, humor, and dedication to those he loved.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Alfred and Dorothy Winter and sister, Margaret Bloomer. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Debbi Winter; children, Shelly Dorrel (Alan), Rebecca Griffen (Jim), Brandon Winter (Crystal), and stepdaughter Jennifer Guth (Charlie); grandchildren, Jessica Clevenger (Joey), Taylor Soutter (Kevin), MacKenzie Miller, Dylan Winter, Sam Winter, CJ Guth, and Tyler Guth; great-grandchildren, Avery and Karsen Clevenger; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and David Meth; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service with Military Funeral Honors for John, will be held 10:00am, Friday, August 15th, with visitation an hour prior from 9:00am to 10:00am, at Lakeview Funeral Home. Entombment will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery, 12100 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
