

On January 14, 1915, Amelia Theresa Perkins Toussand was born into this world through the union of her father Josiah (Joe) Perkins and her mother Eleanore (Leona) Fontenot in Mamou, LA. She was baptized at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou, LA.
Amelia married Adam Toussand and to this union born two children Laura Mae Toussaint Batiste and Sidney Paul Toussant. She and her family were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where her children went to school. The family moved to San Francisco, CA after her children graduated high school. After returning to Lake Charles in the early 1970s, they joined Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where her grandchildren were enrolled in school as well. She continued her membership until she moved to Wichita Kansas in 2005. Amelia joined Holy Savior Catholic Church and was a member until her death. She remained a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of the church.
Amelia loved her family dearly and taught them the importance of God and prayer. Her passion was cooking. She loved to cook Louisiana cuisine and would offer a plate of food or something from her garden to any and all. Amelia also loved to bake pies and cakes. She became a seamstress at an early age and worked at a neighborhood cleaners in Lake Charles. She enjoyed sewing and would make dresses, skirts, shirts, pants, and school uniforms for her grandchildren. Amelia also owned her own business with her late husband. They owned “Food Land” a neighborhood grocery store in Lake Charles. She loved to dance or “cut the rug” as she would say. After her husband and children passed away and she decided to move to Wichita, KS to be near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Amelia celebrated her 100th birthday in 2015 and received acknowledgements from the City of Wichita and from the President of the United States, President Barack Obama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam Toussand; her parents, Josiah and Eleanor (Leona) Perkins; both her children, daughter, Laura Mae Toussant Batiste and son; Sidney Paul Toussant; her brothers, Nacy, John, Larry, Maxine and Frank Perkins of Houston, Texas; her sisters, Eva Pitre, Rella Carlin, Loris Bihm and Shirley McIntyre; her granddaughter, Gwendolyn Marie Batiste and grandson, Derrick Gerard Batiste.
Amelia leaves to cherish her memories, her grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Holland, Kim (Norvell) Bufford, Darryl (Danita) Batiste, Daphanie (Kevin) Pointer, Terri Toussant, Deidre Toussant, Latoya Bryant (Micah), and Willie Bushnell. Her great-grandchildren, Adrian Batiste, Allie Bufford, Darrian Batiste, Darvin Batiste, Kailee Pointer, Kevin Pointer Jr, Heavenly Bryant, Jourdan Bryant; and great-great grandchildren, Amare Batiste, Paisley Batiste, and Khloe Anderson; son-in-law Willie Joe Batiste, his loving wife, JoAnne Batiste and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was loved dearly by grandchildren, great-grands and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews affectionally known as “MoMo” and “Aunt Tee”.
