Arland Lee Wallace, age 74, passed away on May 27, 2026, surrounded by love after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Born on November 21, 1952, in Springfield, Missouri, Arland was the beloved son of the late Ted T. Wallace and Mildred A. Wallace. He grew up with a deep appreciation for learning, faith, and family—values that would continue to shape and guide his life.
Arland graduated from East High School in Wichita in 1970 and went on to live a life marked by perseverance, curiosity, and accomplishment. In one of his proudest achievements, he earned his degree in Archaeology from Wichita State University at the age of 73, a milestone that reflected his lifelong passion for education and his determination to fulfill his dreams. He had hoped to continue his studies and pursue a master’s degree so he could one day teach and share his love of the field with others.
A man of strong faith, Arland dedicated himself to his church community. He studied for the ministry at Bishop Kemper School and was ordained as a Deacon at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, where he faithfully served from 2016 to 2020. His relationship with God was central to his life, and he found great joy in serving both his church and others.
Arland’s career reflected his steady work ethic and loyalty. He began working at a young age parking cars at Hillcrest Apartments. After high school, he worked as an X-ray technician at St. Joseph Hospital, and later joined his brother, Tom Wallace, at Mercury Printing. There, he built a long and dedicated career, remaining with the company through its merger with Printing Inc. until his retirement.
Known as a true Renaissance man, Arland embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He had a deep love for the arts, learning to play both the violin and piano. He enjoyed traveling across the country and pursuing a wide range of interests. Above all, he cherished his faith, his family, and the meaningful life he built through his many experiences and accomplishments.
Arland is lovingly survived by his brother, Tom Wallace and his wife Jeanne Wallace; his cherished niece Meghan; and his nephews Sean D. Mermis and Shane T. Wallace. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Buttons, who was a dear companion.
