Barbara Ann O'Toole

The family of Barbara Ann O’Toole is saddened to announce her passing on August 2, 2026, at the age of 80 years.

Barbara was born on March 4, 1946, in Oberlin, Kansas. Raised by her parents, Lemoin and Patricia Landau, in a lively household with her brothers Howard, Jerry, Greg, and Vince. Later in life she enjoyed telling stories about how growing up with four brothers helped make her both strong and resilient.

Barbara graduated from Decatur County High School, embarking on a career that would highlight her formidable skills and intellect. For 30 years, she worked as a legal secretary, renowned for her impeccable accuracy and attention to detail. Her colleagues often marveled at her ability to navigate the complexities of legal documents with ease and precision.

Barbara first married Vyrl Rush, with whom she shared a decade of her life before they amicably parted ways. Together they raised their three children, Robyn, Jeff, and Jennifer. Later, she found her true soulmate in Larry O'Toole, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage of 17 years.

Blessed with a quick wit and a dry sense of humor, Barbara was never one to shy away from speaking her mind. Her forthright nature and vibrant personality made her the life of any gathering.

Barbara was an avid crocheter, creating beautiful blankets and throws. She enjoyed watching her favorite programs on television and engaging in spirited games, which she often won with her characteristic competitive spirit.

She was also a devoted lover of dogs, always ready to shower her four-legged companions with affection, and her pets brought her comfort and companionship throughout her life. Barbara delighted in discovering music on YouTube, often losing herself in the melodies of her favorite songs, Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" and Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" among them.

Barbara is predeceased by the love of her life, Larry O’Toole, and her cherished parents, Lemoin and Patricia Landau.

Barbara is survived by her children, Robyn Bender (Marty), Jeff Rush, and Jennifer Long; her brothers, Howard Kuhn, Jerry Kuhn (Nancy), Greg Landau (Denise) and Vince Landau (Elvita). She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Andy and Ben Bender, Cole and Claire Long, Leanna and Patty Rush, and one great-grandchild, Theodore Bender.

In her later years, Barbara was supported by the compassionate caregivers at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community and Community Care Hospice. Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to these dedicated individuals for their exceptional care and companionship.
