This is from the Goodwin family on West 9th St. we were neighbors across the street from the Manesses for many years. We lost our mom in July of 2018. Bertha or aka Mrs Maness was a very lively and loving person! I remember all of the conversations I had with her over the years and I am so very very sorry that missed out seeing her funeral date. I would have been there! Hopefully mom and Mrs Maness are upstairs yakking it up and drinking lots of coffee together and having great time . Know that I while I was poor in keeping contact that your mom and dad were dear to me! 

Maness Family - I have such fond memories of knowing Bertha and, really, growing up knowing most of you. She had a great sense of humor and I will remember her with a smile on her face. She was such a vital part of growing up in our church and youth group, and she loved us kids well. I look forward to the day where we are all together again, without any pain and suffering. Prayers for you all. 

To my plethora of cousins in and around Wichita - the Kansas Manesses:  I was very saddened to hear of the death of my Aunt Bertha Nell Maness, in much the same way as I was when Uncle James died - like a part of my life, a big portion of my childhood for sure, had just been taken away from me.  This pales in comparison to the loss y'all must feel, I'm sure.  Even when a death is expected, that  doesn't really make it any easier.  Grief still comes.  But being Christian, we have hope!  The knowledge that Aunt Bertha Nell is in God's hands now, free of pain and full of joy, brings us some comfort.  Happy memories help, as well.  Aunt Bertha Nell & Uncle James were my favorite aunt and uncle on my Dad's side.  (Shhhhh.  Don't tell the others.)  I was probably a teenager before I realized that her name was Bertha NELL and not actually Bertha NAIL...lol  (Well, we WERE in Texas.  :-) And what fun we had in the basement, listening to that song about her and her fictional "sisters," funny, because it was nothing like her.  :-) I won't mention the song title here, but I'm pretty sure both Paul and David remember it. :-)  Anyhow, please know that I love you, and that you all have my deepest sympathy and my prayers during this difficult time. Oh what a comfort are those God breathed words.  May they comfort all those grieving the death of our beloved Bertha.

"Friends are friends forever if the Lord's the Lord of them."  You are all very dear to my heart, dear Maness family.  I have so many fond memories of all of you.  Your parents were such godly and giving leaders in our church all those many years ago.  It feels like yesterday.  They gave of themselves in every way, opened your home, and loved the lot of us like family.  I remember Bertha's happy heart, her smile, her fun-loving ways, her laugh, her generosity, and her deep faith.  My life is better for having known her.  May God grant all of you peace at this time of grieving.  I love you all.
