Maxine was born August 29, 1922,to Roy and Faith Overstreet Palmer in Tipton, Oklahoma. Maxine grew up in Oklahoma along with her beloved siblings AJ (Nell) Palmer and Dora Frances (Al) Hoskins. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age. Graduating from Chattanooga High School, Maxine developed lifelong friendships. Maxine attended Cameron College where she met and later married Quintin Roberts January 10, 1942,in Wichita. Together they shared 57 years of marriage. An avid Shocker fan, Maxine also enjoyed reading, gardening, playing games and traveling. She treasured her role as homemaker, and also worked for the Wichita Public Schools. Active for 65 years at Sharon Baptist Church, Maxine served as a Sunday School and VBS teacher, librarian, and deacon's wife.
She leaves behind her three children Bobbie (Doug) Kyle, Cordova, TN; Kathy (Charles) Gibbs, Clinton, MS; and Dr. A. Roy Roberts (Pam), Wichita. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Kirsten DeLay (Brian), Shawna Launsby (Bron), Heather Taylor (Michael), Marisa Strauss (Justin), Julie Welch (Jerry); David Gibbs (Jennifer), Brent Gibbs (Jennifer), Courtney Browning (Matt), and Sarah Roberts. Thirty great-grandchildren call her Greatmother. She will be missed by a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be at Sharon Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16th. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. The family will serve a lunch in Fellowship Hall and all are invited to attend and share memories and stories. A memorial has been established in Maxine's name at Sharon Baptist Church, 2221 South Oliver, Wichita, Kansas 67218.
