Brent Pickering

Pick is survived by daughter, Erika Pickering; son and daughter-in-law, Dylan and Kellie Pickering; grandchildren, Carleigh Rose, Jakob, Geneva, Heidi, Mason, and Waylon; and great-grandson, Grayson, sisters, Lorie Threet (Lance), and Sandy Herzet, and dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He reunites in Heaven with his wife of 41 years, Annie Pickering, parents, Norma Jean (Leftwich) and Jim Read Pickering, mother-in-law, Jeanie Rutz, and stepson, Jason Lies.

Working for the Benton Township, Brent was passionate about the immaculate upkeep of the Benton Cemetery and especially loved the flag display for Memorial Day, even fundraising to purchase new flags to replace the worn. Brent’s favorite color was rust and he couldn’t decide which car to take to Heaven, leaving the responsibility of the coolest car in the family to his son, Dylan. He loved working on cars and vintage bikes, collecting antiques, license plates, and was a self-proclaimed “junk lover”.

Pick spent many summers at Fox Lake starting in childhood where he cultivated lifetime friendships. He had a broad musical taste ranging from Willie Nelson to Pink Floyd to Blink 182. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs, spending time with family and friends, and an ice cold Miller Lite after work.

Pick truly excelled as a father, papa, and husband, showing his love through action more than words though his advice and support will be missed as much as he is.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at St. Francis as well as Brent’s home healthcare nurse, Stacy Aguilar, for their compassionate care and guidance navigating through these difficult times.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to the Benton Flag Pole Fund. Donations can be made at Vintage Bank locations in Wichita and Butler County.
