Callan Daniel Roach passed away on October 2, 2026, at just six weeks of age, surrounded by the love of his parents after bravely facing complications from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Though his time on earth was brief, Callan's life was filled with boundless love, remarkable strength, and a spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and left a lasting impact on all who followed his health journey from the very beginning.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Callan was the cherished son of Avary (Finch) and Derek Roach. From the very beginning, he demonstrated extraordinary resilience. Despite spending much of his young life on ECMO and a ventilator, Callan's vibrant and spunky personality shined through every challenge he faced. He loved holding hands with his strong little grip, listening to his sisters' voice, enjoying gentle head rubs, and cuddling with his beloved octopus toy.
In his six short weeks, Callan underwent four surgeries, including two open-heart procedures. Through every hurdle, he kept his parents and medical team on their toes with his determination and fighting spirit. He became a light in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children's Mercy Hospital, inspiring all who cared for him with his courage and the joy he brought to others.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving parents, Avary and Derek Roach; his sister, Rylen Roach; his grandparents, Kevin and Joyce Roach, Steve and Kaye Miller, Stacy Finch and Lisa Rider; his great-grandparents, Lois Roach, Mary Cole, Anita Owen, Calvin Finch, and Barb Miller; his aunts and uncle, Erica Roach, and Pasha and Brice Horsley; his cousin Brynlee Taylor; as well as many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
While Callan's life was measured in weeks rather than years, the impact he made will endure forever. His strength, sweetness, and unwavering fight were a powerful reminder of the preciousness of life and the depth of unconditional love. He will be deeply missed and forever treasured by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at NewSpring Church in the North Auditorium, on Thursday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to wear green in support of Kabuki Syndrome Awareness, or red and blue in honor of HLHS awareness and Callan's hospital room colors.
