Floyd was born on February 1, 1934 in Newton, KS to Carl & Martha Steiner. While growing up in El Dorado, KS, he developed a passion for baseball, hunting, fishing and telling stories. Ask anyone who knew him and they would say that Floyd often started a sentence with, “Have I ever told you about the time…” He was the ultimate storyteller, so much so that his love of telling stories became the story to those that knew him. Floyd graduated from El Dorado High School in 1952 and Butler County Community College in 1954 with a degree in Engineering. He proudly served in The United States Navy as a Second-Class Electronics Technician. While in the Navy, he made significant contributions by furthering communication efforts for his crew while stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Floyd then went on to receive a B.A. in Business from Wichita State University in 1963 and a M.B.A from The University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1969. He had a distinguished career with First Securities and Stifel Nicholas, retiring as a Vice President after nearly 40 years of service. Although he took great pride in his work, Floyd was a family man and was loved by many. Floyd was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures of a good chicken-fried steak and peanut butter pie. He was a loyal friend and took pride in his annual fishing trip with the guys where the tales grew larger and larger over 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Martha Steiner; 2 sisters, Loretta Biggs and Wilma Hendrixson; wife, Sonya Tighe Steiner; and ex-wife, Karen Coleman. He is survived by his children, Sherry Knolla, Steve Steiner (Cyrissa), Mardi Liebert and Jay Steiner; stepsons, Jon and Jim Tighe; along with 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held later with Floyd’s children.
If I’ve gone missing, I’ve gone fishing.
