Catherine Raye Webster

Catherine Raye (Oppliger) Webster passed away on December 11, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on September 15,1945 in Dodge City, Kansas to Eric and Dorothy (Eckl) Oppliger.

Catherine graduated in 1968 from Friends University in Wichita with a BA in social studies. She married MSgt Donald George Webster on Jan 29, 1972, in Garden City, Kansas.

Catherine taught middle school in South Carolina for three years and after that enjoyed substitute teaching and tutoring while she and Don were stationed in Georgia, Louisiana and North Dakota with the Air Force. She also taught needlepoint at Hobby Lobby for some time.

Catherine had a love of history, music, needlepoint and reading. She also had a fondness for the many cats they had over the years. She and Don travelled extensively during his military service. After Don retired, they continued to enjoy travel, often in the company of Cathie’s mother, Dorothy, and her friend Clelia.

Cathie was particularly fond of double layered chocolate covered pecans from Nifty Nuthouse and hard candies from Cracker Barrel. She and Don loved eating out and made many friends among the proprietors and waitstaff at the restaurants they frequented. They have resided in Wichita for the past 25 years, most recently at Sedgwick Plaza.

Don and Catherine were married for over 50 years and Don cheerfully attended her every need over the years.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and a still born infant son.

Catherine is survived by her husband, MSgt (Ret.) Don Webster; sister, Ina Oppliger (Nan) of Tacoma, Washington; brother, Eric Oppliger (Esther) of Nathrop, Colorado; nieces, Julie Munson, Becky Graham and Carrie Carmichael; two great nieces; and two great nephews.

Services for Catherine will take place at a later date.
