Biography

Charles was 91 when he departed this life on March 2, 2020 from the home in which he lived for 60 years and raised 4 children. Born on January 31, 1929 to Robert W. Campbell II & Kathleen "Payton" Campbell. Charles was the 3rd of 5 children and attended Gardner Elementary, Hamilton Junior High, and East High School, before earning his B.S. degree in Agriculture from Kansas State University in 1951. Later that summer, he joined the Army and spent the Korean War as an Intelligence Officer in Germany. In January of 1953 he married Donna Joan Pierce and returned to civilian life in 1955 with 2 new languages and Charles his infant son. Charles stayed in the family business as it grew from truck garden to wholesale greenhouse and chain of retail garden centers. In October of 1958 and again in August 1959, Charles married Marilyn Eva Miller, beginning a 60 plus year romance and producing 3 more children; Kurt, Bruce, and Trecia. After "retiring" in 1981, he had a successful second career as an investor. It isn't possible to publish a complete list of his interests, activities, travels, friendships, mentorships, memories, dreams, and outstanding qualities; we'd need the whole page and obits cost by the word. He wouldn't like that. But, above all, Charles was generous, kind, and he had a great ear for a really bad pun.
