

Charles Clyde, son of Stella Anetti (Ledbetter) and Benonie Sparks Hargrave, was born September 4, 1930 in Mount Vernon, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2017 at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 4 days. He was raised on a farm in the community of Majors, Texas, seven miles south of Mount Vernon. At the age of 11 he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and shortly after was called to preach. His first sermon was at Piney Woods Church of God. His second sermon was at the Texas State Camp Meeting, where thirty people received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. On May 15, 1948, at the age of 17, he married Erma Joy Brown in Brownfield, Texas. His proudest moments were when their five children were born, Sandra Kay, Joy Lynn, Kathy Gail, Rose Charlene, and John Mark. Clyde and Joy spent their lives serving the Lord where ever He called them. For many years Clyde was a missionary to Central America. He also served as an Evangelist, Pastor, District Youth Director, District Overseer, State Overseer and Missionary Overseer. Some of his proudest accomplishements were: feeding over seventy-five families in Portsmouth, Ohio for several months; riding with the Milford, Ohio Police every week for nearly a year; and riding his bicycle 550 miles, from the border of Colorado to the border of Missouri, at the age of 82, which raised $25,000 for the hurricane victims of Haiti. Reverend Hargrave was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Frank Shira; a sister Mildred Miller and six brothers, Vessie, Aaron, Rueben, Wayne, Carlos and Bobby. He is survived by his loving wife, Joy,of 69 years, five children and their spouses; Kay and Jim Hoffman, Joy Shira, Kathy and Mike Nye, Charlene and William Braden, John and Laura Hargrave; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grand children. He is also survived by a sister Aurelia Brewer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Clyde was a great man of God, who touched many lives and set a great example for all of us. Today he is receiving his reward in heaven, healthy, happy and rejoicing with the Lord. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of God World Missions, c/o Rolling Hills Church of God.
