Cheryl Jane (Cheri) Oatsdean, 75, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025. Family and friends continually surrounded her throughout her illness. Cheri was born on June 23, 1949, the daughter of Albert and Charlotte Anne Oatsdean. Cheri grew up in Wichita, Kansas, attended East High School and went on to Wichita State University, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Education, and later continued doctoral studies in psychology. She taught, substituted, and tutored in private schools in Wichita.
Cheri’s Christian faith was an integral part of her life. Her devotion to Jesus and his teachings was evident in the way she lived. She was known for her kind spirit, empathy, compassion for others, and a willingness to help anyone in need. For a number of years she ran her own counseling service, Mary’s Way. Through the years, Cheri gave talks at organizations, conducted Bible studies, and led many prayer groups. She was always willing to volunteer for a worthy cause that needed support.
Cheri was multi-talented. She loved writing and wrote journals, plays, and two books. In later years, when Cheri cared lovingly for her mother who had dementia, she would spend quiet time writing. In Cheri’s published book, Blacky: a K-9 Rescue of the Heart, she tells a funny and tender story of how her beloved little dog Blacky became a wonderful companion and assistant caretaker for Cheri’s mom. Cheri loved to write beautifully penned personal notes in all her Christmas cards as well. In addition to her talent in writing, Cheri was also somewhat of an entrepreneur. She invented skin care products for men and women and promoted them through websites.
Cheri loved to entertain in her home. Whether she was hosting a movie night with popcorn, a birthday get-together, or any kind or party, she had home-made cookies, a big hug, and a warm welcome for everyone. Cheri was a dear friend to many. She will be missed, but never forgotten.
She is survived by her brother, Scott Oatsdean (Susan), niece Ali and nephew, Christian.
Cheri’s Funeral Mass and Rosary will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The rosary will be Wednesday, May 7th at 7 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be Thursday, May 8th at 10:00 a.m.
