Carl served in the U.S. Air Force from July 3, 1963 until July 3, 1971 where he was a radio mechanic.
Carl was a Kansas City, Missouri Police Officer for 25 years that included him being on the streets, being a sex crimes detective; along with being a homicide detective. He served with KCPD from July 3, 1971 until February 7, 1996. Carl continued a Police career with the Wichita Police Department for 18 months as a crime scene investigator.
Carl met the love of his life, Sheli Lyn Lachman, on May 23, 1981, then the two were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 18, 1995, where they honeymooned, then returned home to Kansas City, Missouri. After returning home for two weeks, the couple went on a second honeymoon to London, England, for two more weeks.
Carl enjoyed woodworking, gardening, honey-do-lists for the house, reading John Grisham books, going to the movies, having coffee at Starbucks with his buddies, but most of all, spending time with his wife Sheli, and working in the workshop with his grandson, Joey.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Clarence and Helen Walton.
He is survived by: his wife, Sheli Walton of the home; his sister, Carol (Richard Sr.) Wellman; his grandson, Joey McCool; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry (Jenny) Lachman; his nephews, Charles Lachman, Aaron Wellman, Adam Wellman, Richard Wellman, Jr.; along with his best friend, Ed Broyles; and many other friends.
"Carl, you were the love of my life. I will miss you forever, you gave me a life I couldn't have had with anyone else. I hope you felt half as loved as you made me feel. I will see you again when we're reunited." ~ Sheli.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025; Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM, both at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in the Garden of Christus.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Carl's name has been established with: Alzheimer's Association, 535 West Douglas Ave., #150, Wichita, Kansas 67213.
