Claude Willis

Willis, Claude 89, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Army and Marine Veteran, went to be with his Lord and Savior April 16, 2018. Claude was a member of Gospel Assembly Church both in Wichita, KS, and Houston, TX. Son of Sim and Lavenia Willis, he was born December 3, 1928, in Elizabeth, LA. After his military career, he started his civilian career as an Iron Worker Local #84 in Houston, TX. When he retired, he worked for many years as a professional driver for Service Corp. International. Claude was a determined and steadfast provider for his family who enjoyed baseball, fishing, cajun cooking and "driving for Jesus"! He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Esther Maye Willis, wife of 62 years; six sisters and four brothers. Survived by son, Van (Laurie) Willis of Derby; daughter, Cherylane (Rodney) Einsel of Wilmore; brother, Ruiel (Olive) Willis; grandchildren Anna Smith, Van (Lauren) Willis II, Christopher (Megan) Willis, Sarah Willis; great grandchildren, Piper Tinley and Jackson Van Willis; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held 12-8 p.m. with family receiving from 6-7 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018 at Resthaven Mortuary. Celebration of Life service 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Gospel Assembly Church, 4230 N. Oliver, Wichita, KS 67220. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the United Service Organization, 6918 Trooper Dr., Fort Riley, KS 66442.
