

88, loving husband and father, passed away on September 25, 2017. Dr. Schopf was born on May 15, 1929 and was a long-time resident of Wichita. He graduated from East High School in 1947 and married his wife Jean on December 19, 1948. He graduated from the KU Medical School in 1957. Dr. Schopf began his career as a Family Practice Physician in Clearwater, KS. He often worked 14 hour days caring for patients in his office and then making house calls in the evening to those patients too ill to travel. He later moved his practice to Wichita and continued to serve his patients in Wichita and surrounding towns. In 1977 he was elected President of Staff at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He once was an orderly at the hospital and later as Chief of Staff. In 1991 he was elected President of the Sedgwick County Medical Society. He practiced medicine until his retirement in 1994. Throughout his career he was also an excellent teacher helping medical students learn to be Family Practice Physicians. Many of them continued to seek his counsel after they began their own practices. He loved travelling, playing golf and fishing. He was a Master Mason, Scottish Rite Mason, Shriner, and Demolay Legion of Honor. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Clifford and Opal, sister Virginia, and stepmother Opal. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Iyral Jean; sons Richard (Rosanna), David (Dena), daughter Susan (Gary) Franz all of Wichita; grandchildren Sherii Farmer, Kari Ward, Nathan Schopf, Darren Schopf, Damon Schopf, Dan Schopf, Davina Collette, Jennifer Jordan, and Jeremy Franz; 18 great grandchildren; nieces Diane Dean, Debbie Long, Janet Estep. A special thank you to Shawna Jarmon and LuAnn Reagan for their kind care and devotion to Jean and Clifton. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 29th at Resthaven Mortuary. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel in Wichita. Memorials may be made to Via Christi St. Francis Philanthropy in memory of Dr. Schopf and Shriners Hospital for Children.
