Daniel S. Kilby, age 91, retired Architect at Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey Architecture, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018. Dan was born January 9, 1927 the son of the late Ralph and Constance (Sharpe) Kilby. Dan spent the majority of his childhood in Carthage, NY. At the age of 17, Dan joined the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. He was a graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture. In 1950, Dan moved to Wichita to begin his architectural career. On September 13, 1953, Dan married Donna J. Boger, in Ellinwood, KS. He was one of the founding members of The Wichita Audubon Society. He was also a member of The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, International Crane Foundation, and World Wildlife Organization. Dan retired from Schaefer in 1989. During his retirement Dan rediscovered his passion for drawing wild birds and was a published artist/illustrator. He began a part-time career in April of 2000 at Exploration Place, where he worked for 16 years. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dr. Ralph A. Kilby. Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Donna; daughter, Pam and husband, Eric Diss, Bedford, TX; son, Dan and wife, Dianne Kilby; grandchildren, Olivia G. and Daniel O. Kilby, all of Wichita. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 19, Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel, 12100 E. 13th Street North, Wichita. Graveside service will follow with military honors provided by The U.S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chaplin Nature Center, 27801 27th Drive, Arkansas City, KS 67005.
