David R. Ross

David Roland Ross was born on March 16, 1954 in Tubingen, West Germany. He moved with his missionary family to the Belgian Congo (later renamed Zaïre) in 1957. David and his family alternated between Zaire and the United States. While abroad, he attended Central School, a boarding school for missionary children. Later, he boarded at The American School of Kinshasa (TASOK) in Zaire‘s capital. In 1972, David graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale, California.

David resided in Silicon Valley , California the majority of his adult life. His keen engineering mind led him to Certify in Medical Engineering via California State University San José. He was dedicated to his work with medical companies and took pride in knowing that the work saved lives. He was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in San Jose, California, and held the position of Mission Treasurer for decades. In his leisure time, David enjoyed the out-of-doors and could often be found walking in the park, playing golf or fishing . David treasured friendship and was deeply appreciative of his lifelong friend, Charles Sthreshley, whom he had known since childhood.

In February of 2024, David moved to Wichita Presbyterian Manor (WPM) in Wichita, Kansas. He wanted to be near his immediate family and celebrated his 70th birthday with them. He was pleased that his Assisted Living apartment was directly adjacent to his father’s and enjoyed taking Sunday afternoon tea with his family. David remained active and frequently walked throughout WPM’s campus. He participated in the Manor’s activities, including BINGO, chapel and Sunday services.

In March 2025, David’s health began to decline more rapidly. Though he endeavored to continue his physical activity ,his mobility was compromised by his declining health. On September 21st, he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit at VIA CHRISTI’s Saint Teresa Hospital, Wichita, Kansas, and reposed peacefully in the Lord on September 27th with brother and sister holding his hands.

Jones, Cousins: Maj. Kenneth Ross, jr., and C. David McDaniel

David is survived by his father, Charles Ross, jr., brother Stephen C. Ross, sister Jennifer E. Ross (Kevin Lanergan), nieces Heather Rose (Andrew), Leah Prater (Preston), nephew Justin Ross (Magen), great nieces Lilly Ross, Shelby Rose, aunts Sarah Hussey, Barbara Jones, cousins Robert Ross, Doug Ross, Lori Jaqua (Doug), Lisa Ellis (David), Kimberly Dominello (Michael), Raymond Merritt, jr., Ross Merritt, Michael G. Jones (Crystal), Suzie Jones, Cynthia Hussey, Eric Hussey, J. Grant McDaniel (Terri), Sheryl Olson (Kirk) and Dean Hammond (Cindy).

A celebration of life for David will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Wichita Presbyterian Manor Chapel, 4700 W 13th St N, Wichita, KS 67212.
