“Happy Grandma’s Day!” -Lennon (3yo)

This is what Lennon said she wanted to tell Grandma DeDe when I asked her If she wanted to say anything special to Grandma today.

Happy Mother’s Day to the Mommy who made us all that we are. We wouldn’t be us if it weren’t for you. We love you.

God gained one of the feistiest Guardian Angels this morning.. I have so many good memories with her that I don’t know exactly what to say or how to say it. I remember her letting me sit and put “makeup” on her for hours when I was Lennon’s age. She would save all of her empty makeup containers for me to put water in and do her makeup. I’ll be honest, the eye shadow was always blue and she always had bright pink lips. She taught me how to shuffle cards and never got upset with me when they would explode all over her living room. I remember her keeping every Disney movie for us kids to watch, and always had colors and coloring books for us to entertain ourselves. I remember how she would drink Amaretto and Coke at family birthday dinners and give me little sips when no one was looking because is that even really alcohol? I remember how she called her baby fat her “cookie dough” and how I call mine the same. I remember being in the pool and trying to sink her and she was magic and could hold all of us kids above water. I remember that she loved to wait to open all of her Christmas gifts so she could watch her family exist around her in her big blue living room. I remember watching for wildlife in her backyard and watching horrible reality tv and laughing at their craziness together. I remember walking in her camper at El Dorado lake to her shaking everything her Mama gave her to Ricky Martin because she swore he was the closest living thing to Elvis, and I swear my Grandpa would have had major competition if Elvis and her had ever crossed paths. But most of all, I remember how she always kissed you three times when you came and went because one just wasn’t enough. I am going to miss her so much but I am so happy that she now has her perfect lungs, beautiful and capable hands, she can wear all of the cute shoes and eat all of the sweets because there aren’t calories in Heaven. Until we meet again, Godspeed.
Love you for always, Your Granddaughter, Gabrielle

I'm so sorry to hear this. We were children together and I have many happy memories of Dena Lu, as she was to me. She was one of the last of us cousins. Her father and my mother were brother and sister. We shared many family dinners at Grandma Mae's house. Best love to Gene and the family. Carolyn
