

Anderson, Donald E. “Don”, 81, of Wichita, KS passed away on Fri. July 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. Don was born in Lindsborg, KS on July 29, 1932 the son of Everett and Dorothy (Bristow) Anderson. Don and Barbara Anderson were united in marriage on Mar. 4, 1955 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Wichita. Together they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Don served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. He graduated from Wichita High School East in 1950. He was a 1958 graduate of Wichita University where he achieved his bachelor’s degree in political science. He was a member Alpha Gamma Gamma fraternity, later Beta Theta Phi. He worked for the City of Wichita for 30 years as a Director of Administration and Director of Housing and Economic Development. He was the Chief of the Wichita Fire Reserve for a number of years. He enjoyed developing his art skills, friendships, golf and was the Director of the Harley’s Owners Group. When he retired at age 55 he began developing interests in sculpting and painting. A retrospective exhibition of his work was shown at the Wichita Center for the Arts at age 75 in July 2007. He was on the board of the YMCA. He was a member of Wichita area home builders and Wagonmasters. He served a number of years on the Wichita Planning Commission. He will be missed by all who knew him. Don was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife Barbara, sisters, Phylis (Dr. Alan) Hancock, Ina Eklund, children, Holly (Richard) Sackhoff, Jeramy (John Hamilton) Anderson, Grant (Sherry) Anderson, grandchildren, Matthew Dougherty, Dani Anderson, Ben (Karoline) Byler, Luke Byler and great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at 1pm on Tues. July 29, 2014 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, with funeral services following at 2pm. A private family entombment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery Mausoleum. In Don's honor in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.
