Don passed away peacefully at home at the age of 73 surrounded by his wife, children, and his sidekick Belle after an aggressive bout of cancer preceded by many years of chronic illness. We are sad to see him go, but so very thankful his battle is finally over.
Don is survived by a strong legacy of love including his wife of 46 years, Kris; his three children, Joe of Lakewood, CO, Ann (Chris) Turk of Hanover, KS, and Dani Ewan (Nate) of Colorado Springs, CO; and his beloved nine grandchildren, Maddy, Wade, Ansel, Brooklyn, Bryce, Heidi, Drew, Ben, and Keller.
He was a man who truly loved life's simple joys. Whether he was spending time in the mountains -- especially at his beloved cabin in Spar City, Colorado -- or listening to the Grateful Dead with a toe tapping along, he found happiness in the moments that mattered most. He had an easygoing spirit that made everyone feel comfortable and welcome.
Family was the center of his world. He was a proud and loving husband and father and especially cherished grandpa, finding great joy in every moment spent with his grandchildren. His love of his family was constant, quiet, and deeply felt. Don may have been a man of few words, but undeniably a man of many thoughts.
Don built a successful career working alongside his father and later his brothers at Sellers Equipment Company, where his dedication and strong work ethic left a lasting legacy. Don also gave his time and heart to his community for many years; being a youth group sponsor at West Heights United Methodist Church, where he formed meaningingful connections; and made a lasting impact on many young lives.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, his steady nature, his love of family, and the way he could make any moment feel just a little more relaxed and joyful. He had a truly comforting way to show up for the people he loved.
Per Don's request, no services will be held. His ashes will be spread at the place his spirit felt most at home, the cabin.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to listen to some good music and spend time with the people you love.
Goin' home, goin' home,
By the water-side, I will rest my bones,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs,
To rock my soul.
