Doris Mae Goebel Ball Koker went peacefully with her family by her side to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Doris was born on March 29, 1930 to Lester W. and Edith O. Goebel in Woods County, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of six red-headed children. In order to graduate from high school, Doris had to move into town and support herself. She graduated from LeRoy, Kansas High School in 1948. She attended Junior College in Iola, Kansas for a year and then taught at Wolf Creek and in Aliceville for two years. In 1957, she moved to Wichita, Kansas and she met a handsome Marine, William A. Ball. They married on April 19, 1958. Doris and Al had three sons and a daughter.
Over the course of her life, Doris had many interesting jobs: an inspector at a military shirt factory, a booth girl at Safeway, a bookkeeper at Jerry's Thriftway, a secretary at New England Life, and finally worked in production control at the Coleman Company. She retired from Coleman in 1989 after working there for eleven years. Doris married John W. Koker on March 29, 2006. They traveled and enjoyed many church activities until he passed away in November, 2007.
Doris was a wonderful mother and she was thrilled when grandchildren began arriving. She loved playing with her grandkids. They spent a lot of time in the backyard playing ball and riding trikes. She enjoyed having them help her cook. There was never a dull moment at grandma's house.
There was nothing Doris couldn't do. She could re-upholster furniture, crochet, knit, embroider and she was an expert seamstress. No one could cook like her nor keep a house as clean and she was famous for her wonderful pies. She loved yardwork, gardening and growing flowers. Doris bowled on several leagues through the years and she loved attending the dances at Senior Centers. She attended church faithfully and served in many different capacities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Edith Goebel, her husbands, William A. Ball and John W. Koker, and her brothers, Jess Goebel and Leslie Goebel.
Survivors include her brothers: Don Goebel and George Goebel (Katherine); her sister: Alice Roberts; her three sons: Duane K. Ball (Pam), Robert D. Ball (Diana), Michael D. Ball (Cindy); her daughter: Sheila K Robbins (Dennis); her grandchildren: Heather D. Wooten (Kurt), Broc D. Ball (Amanda), Travis L. Ball (Erin), Joshua W. Ball, Zachary J. Ball (Stephanie), Seth L.
