84, went to Heaven on Saturday, June 25th. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Wells; parents, Martin and Laura Sanders; brothers, Sam, Armin, and Russell Sanders; and grandson, Christopher Wells. She is survived by sons, Karl M. (Susan) Wells of Goddard, KS and Michael A. (Jeanette) Wells; daughters, Brenda S. (Doug) Downey and Roxanne J. Wells all of Wichita; sister, Emma Tebbenkamp of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Joseph, Timothy, Travis, Zachery, Heather, Kevin, and Amanda Wells, and Tiffany Matthew and Melissa Hartley; and 11 great grandchildren. Dorothy retired from the Henry Helgerson Company with over 50 years of service, where she worked as an Office Manager during the day, although that title does little to convey her total responsibilities. She also managed their concession businesses at Century II and on the WSU campus. It's believed that that is where her love for sports was conceived. She enjoyed baseball (Go Royals and WSU) as well as football (KC Chiefs) and college basketball (WSU, KSU, and KU). She enjoyed family and large family gatherings where she could interact with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed baking and cooking, which turned into a business in downtown Wichita where she was half of the team running the Wichita Café at 3rd and Main. The Wichita Café was known for their good homemade food, daily specials, fresh pies, and cinnamon rolls. She was also busy at home preparing produce from the large garden that she and Wilbert tended. Thousands of hours were spent canning and freezing fresh vegetables. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Resthaven Mortuary and funeral service 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Memorials established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, and American Cancer Society.
