Duane was born July 15, 1931, in Columbus, North Dakota to Andrew and Nelsie Kihle. The fourth of five children, he was the youngest boy. Duane grew up and graduated school in Columbus. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy. While on leave from the Navy in September 1954, he was united in marriage to Adeline Roloff at Zion Lutheran Church, McGregor, ND. He finished his 4 year military service just months later, in 1955. He loved his time in the Navy and was proud to represent and serve his country. Following his military service, Duane entered a career in the oil industry, and he and his family lived many places across the United States. He retired in 1991. Duane and Adeline have called Wichita, Kansas home for the last 24 years. They have been members of Pathway Church since 1991, and he served faithfully in his small group, on the communion team, and as an usher for many years. He also worked with the children in the AWANA club, and was a mentor in Celebrate Recovery where he counseled and encouraged others in their journey of sobriety. His love for family was evident in the time he invested in providing for his wife and family, vacations with his own children, time spent supporting his grandchildren, and his pure enjoyment of just having his great grandchildren around. He could often be found at the mall meeting for coffee with friends. His incredible work ethic kept him on the move, and even after retirement he worked several part time jobs, enjoyed a weekly bowling league, and volunteered as Village Greeter for Davita Dialysis. He is survived by two sons: Ronald (Laurie) of Johnstown, CO and William (Sondi) of Wichita, KS; and one daughter, Joanne (Paul) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren: Tyler (Etheta) of Wichita, KS; Kari (Justin) of Frisco, TX; Sandra (Matthew) of Gardner, KS; Andrew of Kansas City, KS; Rachel of Thornton, CO; Nicholas of Wichita, KS; Daniel of Wichita, KS; and great grandchildren: Miguel, Elliot, Myla, and Caroline. Duane was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Nelsie Kihle. Visitation with family will be held Monday at Resthaven Mortuary from 5-7 PM. Services will be held Tuesday September, 22nd at 10:00 AM at Pathway Church.
