He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Georganne and Beverly, and his son Tim Stephens.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, children Mark Stephens, Stephanie Crow and her husband Mike, Shari Burckhardt and her husband Pedro, his sister Sandi Stephens, as well as five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
E.R. is interred at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas. At his request, no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
