CORY, Edward Johnson – age 100, retired Senior Manufacturing Engineer from the Coleman Company passed away October 22, 2010. A graveside service will be held at Wichita Park Cemetery on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 10 o’clock by DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary.
Ed was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, on September 13, 1910. At the age of two weeks his family moved to Syracuse, Kansas, where, growing up, he delivered the Wichita Eagle for five years. He attended Wichita University for one year then transferred to the University of Colorado graduating with a degree in electrical engineering in 1934. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Wichita and was hired by the Coleman Company. He retired from Coleman in October, 1973, after over 39 years of service. Ed was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and bowling as often as time would permit. He also enjoyed playing couples bridge every other Saturday evening for over 30 years. Growing tomatoes every summer was another of his favorite pastimes. He was a 33-Degree Mason and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Olga Dolores, and his sister, Almeda Church of Greensburg. Survivors include son Robert (Artie) of Wichita, daughter Susan Brown (James) of Wichita, son William (Trine) of Austin, TX, and a niece, Roxanne King of Murietta, CA. Three grandchildren: Christian (Nicole) of Wichita, Margo Francis (Guy) of London, England, Shannon Davis (Melissa) of Gardner, Ks. and four great grandchildren: Wade Robert and Ella Morgan Cory; Dylan and Tori Davis. Memorials have been established with the First Presbyterian Church and Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
