Elaine M. Carriker

Elaine Marie Amundson Carriker was born on the family farm near Soldier, IA on July 27, 1929 to Fred Amundson & Eva Graybill. She departed this life on July 23, 2015 at Davis, CA. She attended Graceland Junior College where she met her future husband, Bill. They married on June 13, 1948 and later settled in Kansas where a son, Brent, was born in Bird City. Their daughters, Marla and Kimberly, were born in Robinson, Kansas. The family moved to Wichita in 1960 where Elaine was a Girl Scout leader and active in the schools. When the children were in the upper grades, Elaine attended WSU to complete degrees in Early Childhood education. She taught kindergarten for 15 years at Chisholm Trail Elementary, retiring in 1990. Elaine was a great cook and enjoyed preparing many large dinners for family celebrations. She also enjoyed camping, traveling, and decorating family cabins. Husband Bill preceded her in death in 2011 and grandson Jeff Ree in 1982. Surviving Elaine is her son, Brent Carriker/Saundra of Henderson, NV; daughter, Marla Denton/John of Davis, CA; daughter, Kimberly Ree/Gregg of Wichita; grandsons, Jason Carriker/Jeanette , Tony Carriker, Logan Ree/Cassie, Justin Denton/Amanda, granddaughter, Ashley Mitchell ; great-grandchildren, Isaac Carriker, Trent Mitchell , Jersie and Davin Ree and Charlotte Denton. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on August 29th at Lakeview Gardens at 12000 East 13th in Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
