

Simmons, Elaine E., Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, has passed on to be with her loved ones who passed before her, at her home in Wichita, as was her wish. Elaine was born in 1926 in Jonesboro, AR, and was the Jonesboro High School football queen in 1944. A lifelong homemaker, she was an avid gardener who was particularly proud of her tomato plants. She was a strong, vibrant, caring woman with an amazing sense of humor who had a way of lighting up any room she was in, and engaging everyone around her. Elaine was very outgoing and made anyone she met feel like family; as a result she had a large and loving extended family. Elaine joins the love of her life, William P. C. Simmons "Elaine's Superman", in heaven with her lord Jesus Christ. She is survived by sisters Nancy Haynes, Janice (Benny) Leatherwood and Martha Hurt; children Cynthia L. Walker, Debra (Tom) Hornbeck, William (Amanda) Simmons; grandchildren Martha (Chris Johnson) Walker and Jeff Hornbeck. Graveside service is 3:00 pm Tuesday, March 26 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. After the graveside, family to receive friends at Elaine’s home from 5 to 7 pm.
