Eleanor Lucille Barraza, age 79 passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022. Lucille was born May 18, 1943 to Robert Anson McDaniel and Daisy May (Cook) McDaniel in Scott City, Kansas. She was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to everyone she met.
Lucille was a graduate of Scott City High School. Lucy, as she was known by everyone, was active with the Orchard Senior Center, TOP’s and several crochet/knit groups. She enjoyed baking and spending hours taking care of her garden and numerous house plants, much like her mother. Lucy also spent hours crafting and crocheting items for numerous charitable groups and causes, it brought her great pleasure to make anything from COVID masks to baby blankets for those less fortunate or in need. Any grandchild or great grandchild was always welcomed to the world with a beautiful, crocheted afghan, no two were ever the same and all are treasured by their new owners. Lucy spent a good deal of her younger years working as a waitress at a variety of establishments that include but not necessarily in this order, Sidmans, Hanover Pancake House, El Mexico Café and Red Lobster, she also worked several years at Dold meatpacking. Lucy loved her family and always enjoyed hearing from her brother, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, sons, daughters and grandkids. Lucy will be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Daisy McDaniel; sister, Marjorie McDaniel; brother, Arlo McDaniel; brother, Robert (Irma) McDaniel; sister, Melva Rose; sister, Virgie (Sonny) Redding; and nephews, Richard McDaniel and Vern Redding.
Lucy is survived by her sister, Roberta (Pete) McDaniel; sons, Mark (Pamela) Kastens, Randy (Mary) Kastens and Jeff Kastens; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service for Lucy will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 1, 2022, with visitation one hour prior, both at Lakeview Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery in the Memory Garden, 12100 E. 13th Street N., Wichita, Kansas 67206.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lucy’s memory can be made to Victory In The Valley, 3755 E. Douglas, Wichita, Kansas 67218, or at the service. As a breast cancer survivor herself, this was a cause Lucy was very passionate about.
