Elizabeth Ann O'Byrne, 77, passed away on April 14, 2026. Born June 25, 1948, Elizabeth’s life was marked by steady devotion to family, faithful commitment, and the quiet strength found in daily acts of care. A resident of Wichita, Kansas, she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring gratitude by those who knew and loved her.
Elizabeth attended Sacred Heart HS, graduating in 1965 in Salina, Kansas. Not long after, she served in the military from 1966 to 1968, stationed in Texas—years that reflected her sense of duty and willingness to step forward when called.
While in the Army, Elizabeth met Douglas Dwight O’Byrne. Their relationship grew during those years of service, and they were married on February 27, 1968, in Denver, Colorado. Together, they built a family life grounded in faith and commitment.
Much of Elizabeth’s life centered on caring for others. She was mostly a stay-at-home mom, and her love was often expressed through the warmth of a meal, the patience of everyday guidance, and the dependable presence her children could count on. She loved to cook and bake, to read, and to watch her stories. She also babysat a few different children, offering the same attentive care beyond her own household. Her hands were rarely still—crocheting, knitting, crafting, and sewing clothes—creating practical comforts and quiet beauty from simple materials.
Elizabeth’s faith and church community were important parts of her family’s life. She began by sending her children on a bus to church on Sundays, and in time she and her husband became members. They worshiped at Sauk Trail Baptist in Richton Park, Illinois, and after moving to Wichita, Kansas, they attended Glenville Baptist in Wichita, Kansas.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Casper P. Pahls; her father, Casper J. Pahls; and her mother, Martha L. Hill.
She is survived by her daughter Jeanne (Mike) McMannaway; her son Jason (Amy) O’Byrne; her sister, Mary Lynn (Clay) Chittum; her brother Christopher J. Pahls and her beloved cats, Sid, Dink, Binky, Bootz and Lilly.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for May 1, 2026, 3pm at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Chapel, 4408 W. Central, Wichita, KS, 67212.
