In Loving Memory

Evelyn Margaret (Evans) Walter, 95, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on August 20, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Richard P. Evans and Alice T. (Wells) Evans. Evelyn grew up in a loving family alongside her brothers and cherished the values her parents instilled in her. She later attended Kansas State University, beginning a lifelong love of learning.

On July 3, 1949, Evelyn married the love of her life, Dr. Terry L. Walter, in Byers, Kansas. The two shared a beautiful marriage filled with faith, adventure, and deep devotion until Terry’s passing in June 2001. Their honeymoon to Garden of the Gods in Colorado was the first of many trips they would enjoy together.

Evelyn was proud of her work as Vice President of Associated Personnel Technicians Inc., where she became known for her professionalism, leadership, and genuine care for others. Her kindness, approachability, and strong work ethic touched everyone she served and worked alongside.

A dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Wichita, Evelyn loved studying the Bible and spending time with her church friends. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and in her final days she spoke often of the peace she felt knowing she would be reunited with her loved ones and her Savior.

Evelyn lived a full and vibrant life. She enjoyed wheat weaving and once decorated a Christmas tree in Washington, D.C., with her creations. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and found joy in making friends wherever she went. Evelyn loved camping and fishing with her in‑laws and grandchildren and was always eager for the next travel adventure. Among her cherished memories were, a lighthouse tour of Maine with her son, an Alaska cruise with a grandson, and celebrating her 86th birthday in England, Wales, and Ireland with her granddaughter.

Evelyn treasured her years in Florida, a dream she and Terry once shared. Even after a hurricane destroyed her home, Evelyn’s gratitude, resilience, and love for Florida sunshine never faded.

Those who knew Evelyn will remember her as warm, welcoming, and endlessly friendly. There was always room for one more at her kitchen table or an extra seat in her car on the way to church. She could be silly, gracious, faith‑filled, and joyfully spirited all at once—quick with a “Howdy doody!” and ready with a hug.

Her greatest legacy is her unwavering faith. Evelyn often told her family that when her time came, she looked forward to holding hands with Jesus, Terry, her parents, and her brothers—each reunited in a perfect circle of love.

Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Marcia (Mike) Olson and Sandie (Skeet) Morrison; her two sons, Mike (Jonda) Walter and Steve (DeeAnn) Walter; her 13 grandchildren; and her 19 great‑grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Terry L. Walter; her parents, Richard P. and Alice T. Evans; her brothers, George (Vera) Evans and Richard Leon Evans; and her grandson Josh.

Evelyn’s life was a testament to kindness, faith, family, and joy. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A private celebration of life will be held.
