February 27, 1929 - October 27, 2026
Fern was born to Charley and Belle Hahn, Dodge City KS. She grew up on the family farm south of Dodge City. Her mother described her as a sweet girl, but always serious. The entire family was active in 4-H where she met her future husband Floyd. Fern and Floyd were married in 1947 at the end of Floyd's first semester at K-State and upon graduation in 1951 moved to Garden City, KS. In 1959 they moved to Wichita where they established their family and forever home.
Fern was a true homemaker and wonderful, supportive wife and mother. She may not have thought herself a leader, but she was, and proved so as president of PTA and Methodist church circle; as well as project leader to multiple 4-Hers. Fern enjoyed her travels with Floyd, both work related and for pleasure. Their together ventures included trips to Soule Korea and several visits to the islands of Hawaii. She loved numbers and figures which served her well in her stints in retail work, Avon selling, and administrative role with the Kansas Junior Livestock Association; she bowled; was a great seamstress; was very artistic in her humbly quiet way; and her dry sense of humor was with her to her last days.
Fern died October 27th at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by: parents, Charley and Belle Hahn; husband, Floyd Ricker; and siblings, Donald Hahn, Danny Hahn, and Doris Stanek. She is survived by: children, Meredythe Kimbrough, Mark Ricker (Cindy), and Marcelyn Davidson (Charley); grandchildren, Erin Ricker, Erica Neidhardt, and Dr M Evan Ricker; great-grandchildren Brock Neidhardt and Brooke Neidhardt; and many cherished family members.
Our family would like to thank the many staff members of Via Christi Village McLane and Home Health & Hospice of Kansas for their immeasurable compassion and loving care. They were seen as angels on the ground. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: First United Methodist Church of Wichita.
