I remember Gus as a refreshingly open conversationalist with an engaging smile; a brother-in-law by marriage, who impressed me with his down-to-earth demeanor, work ethic and, above all, his devotion to wife Dorothy and sons Steve and Dennis.
He was proud of his military service, and we visited his former assigned base, Randolph AFB, with him during a visit by them to Texas.
Gus was the perfect partner for Dorothy, and I like to think of them and their boys now reunited.
My condolences to Gus's sister Elsie and those close friends with whom he shared his last years.

We lived a few states away, but Uncle Gus and Aunt Dorothy were kind and welcoming to our family in every visit to Kansas, growing up.
A particularly special memory for me was the trip Gus and Dorothy made all the way to MN for my wedding in 1997. Knowing that "photographic evidence" is sparse for a number of years, I am sharing this photo of Gus with his brother-in-law, Kenny, at a reception table (wedding couple in the backgound).
It meant an awful lot to us that they made the trip up for our special day.

Uncle Gus Married into the Groom family. He told me a few years ago that marrying My Aunt Dorothy was the best thing he ever did! I agree the best thing he ever did not just for himself but for all of us in the Groom family. You were of two families Gus! You were a Radke but you were also A Groom! I am so grateful and feel so blessed that you were my Uncle. I loved you very much. You added joy to my day just to hear your voice on the phone! Your great big bear hugs always were of warm support and Love. You were like an Uncle of Blood to me not just a person who married into the family. Thank you for being a wonderful husband to Dorothy and father to my cousins Steve and Dennis. You were a wonderful man who will always have a special place in my heart and my memories.
To the Radke family my sympathy and condolences to all of you especially Elsie. You had a fine brother and man in Gus Radke.
go forward Gus to be with Dorothy, Steve and Dennis. Love you and miss you from Vanessa Groom Wilson and Patrick Wilson.
