

Mrs. Georgia “Jo” Alice Hornbaker (Brown), age 88, departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior after a long “good-bye” with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by her family, Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from The Oxford Grand, a caring and loving assisted living family. Georgia was born on March 10, 1928 on a small farm near Waynoka, OK., to Jessie “George” and Gail Alice Brown (Potter) and was the eldest of two girls. Georgia was proceeded in death by her parents and is survived by her loving husband Carol “C.R.”; Sister Billie (Jim (dec.)); Children, Diane (Ron) and Dennis; Stepchildren, Kim (Robby), Kelly (Sandy), Ky (Jill); 12 Grandchildren; 9 Great-Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. After graduating from Pleasant Hill of Waynoka she attended Washburn University of Topeka earning her Bachelor of Education and Master’s degree at Wichita State University. Georgia always dreamed of becoming a school teacher and in 1947, at the young age of 19, began living her dream. In a one-room schoolhouse and only 8 hours of college credit, she began a wonderful journey teaching in the public school systems for 41 years. She touched and was touched by many beautiful children, parents, colleagues, and administrators. Georgia will be remembered as a bright, shining light to all of her friends and family at Faith Christian Church where she and her husband C.R. became charter members in 1978.

A memorial fund has been established in Georgia’s name with Faith Christian Church, 2110 W. 45h St., Wichita, KS 67217.
