

Gerald D. "Jerry" Riedl, 75, entered eternal life on Jan. 2, 2015. Rosary, Thursday, Jan. 8, 7 p.m. and Mass 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, both at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 2nd and Ohio St. Jerry was born in McPherson, KS Oct. 27, 1939. He is preceded in death by his parents, A.H. and Elizabeth Riedl; brother, Jack; sisters, Gloria Marples, Dolores Myers, Jerrie Lewis, and Geneva Keehn. Jerry was a graduate of Kapaun Jesuit High School and believed his Jesuit education changed his life. The Jesuits instilled a life long love of learning and a deep love of Jesus Christ. As a result, he created The Chaplain Kapaun Jesuit High School Alumni Memorial Endowment to honor the Jesuits there and to assist families in need with payment of school fees. Since its founding in 2010, each class of Kapaun has contributed to the endowment. He received The Laurel Award from Kapaun Mt. Carmel for having made a significant and long lasting impact to the school. Jerry graduated from Wichita State with a Bachelors of Business Administration Degree in Management and Economics. He then attended with Certification The New York Institute of Finance. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Jerry and a fellow alum started a Scholarship to honor the pledge that received the lowest grade point average and still made active. To date the Scholarship has awarded twenty pledges. He met his future wife Yvonne Courbois, at a sock hop at Kapaun and were blessed with 52 years of marriage. Jerry started his brokerage career in 1965 at B.C. Christopher leaving as a limited partner to join R.G. Dickinson to head their trading department and share underwriting management. He was a pioneer in Continued Care financing. They underwrote many first time projects: Larksfield Place, all of the beginning Presbyterian Manors, Homestead Health Care and American Baptist Estates. When R.G. Dickinson was sold in 1990, he bought the Wichita office and founded Riedl and Co. In 1994, he bought First Securities. Through the years, the combined companies, Riedl First Securities, has sold hundreds of millions of city improvements, hospitals, continuing care, and manufactoring bonds that have created jobs in Kansas and good investments. Jerry loved Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. He was Financial Chairman of Blessed Sacrament Church for 17 years and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of Serra Club and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Although he traveled the world, his true love was Wichita. He could be seen every morning rain or shine, ice or snow on his daily walk through his neighborhood. Jerry loved car racing and won trophies in cross country, drag and road racing. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; daughters, Elisa (Eric) Bowen and Juliette (Karl) Christensen; grandsons, Connor and Aidan Bowen.
