Born on November 30, 1953, Gil was a man who left an impression on everyone he met. A talented musician, he found joy in playing guitar and singing, filling every room with music and laughter. His presence was magnetic—those who met him, even briefly, never forgot him. He had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued.
Gil was the proud father of his children, Gilbert, Brad, Brett, and Katie. Though a stepdad to Brad, Brett, and Katie he chose to be a father to all four, never letting go of the bond they shared. His love was steadfast, deep, and unwavering.
He was also a loving grandfather to Declan, Scott, Josh, Zach, and Killian, whose lives were enriched by his love and joy.
He shared 28 years with his partner, Barb Kater, who stood by his side through life’s ups and downs, and whom he was always able to make laugh. He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary, and his brother, Joe.
Gil loved hard and with all his soul. He wasn’t perfect—no one is—but he was the best. The best man, the best father, the best grandpa. He brought joy, warmth, and laughter to those around him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As a celebration of Gil’s life, the family asks that you honor him by playing your favorite song, sharing a laugh, and loving the people in your life as fiercely as he did.
Rest easy, Gil, The Man, The Myth, The Legend. You will always be remembered, always be loved (and your hair looked great).
