Hazel Ruth (Porter) Hewett

She was a homemaker and was very active in her community. She was a member of Westside Christian Church for 60 years and was a Sunday school secretary for 30 years. She retired as a volunteer from Red Cross Blood Center after 27 years. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 5 years; life time member with the PTA in the Wichita schools; and was a member of the NALC #201 Auxiliary for 40 years, holding all offices during that time. She contributed to many organizations including: Missionaries in Brazil and Africa; Alpha Christian Children’s Home in Perry, KS; Wichita Children’s Home and the Wichita Food Bank.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Margaret Porter and husband, Horace E. Hewett. She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Hawks and Susan Filkin; sister, Florence Proctor; niece, Terry Dear; 6 grandchildren; 14 great and 19 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation with family present 5-7pm, Tuesday, April 17, and funeral service 1pm, Wed, April 18, both at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt.
