

Howard K. Sorensen died Thursday, June 28, 2012. Born in Westbrook, Minnesota, April 4, 1918, to Jim and Janet Sorensen (Rhodes), he was raised by his father and his step mother, Mable Sorensen, nee Nelsen, his mother having died when he was an infant.
He married Claire Willis in 1941. With Howard’s seminary training in Fort Worth, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee; and Kansas City, Kansas; he and Claire served in Baptist churches in Velma, Oklahoma; Basehor, Kansas; Pawnee City, Nebraska; Sterling, Hugoton; Pleasant Valley (Wichita), Meade, and Tribune, Kansas; and in the area ministry for the Kansas Baptist Convention from Great Bend, Kansas. Howard served American Baptist missions in Haiti and Arizona. Howard and Claire moved to Prairie Homestead in 1999, where Howard has functioned as honorary chaplain to residents of the Health Center.
He is survived by sons Conner of Eschbach, Germany, Nathan of Hamburg, Germany, and Garth of Miacatlan, Mexico; granddaughters Cloudia Pawluk and Claire Meyler; grandsons Daniel and Philipp Sorensen; and great grandchildren Keith, Angela, and Sarah Pawluk, Maganda Meyler and Anna Sorensen.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Homestead Health Center are welcome.
Memorial service will be held at Prairie Homestead Chapel, 1605 W. May, Wichita, at 2pm on Wednesday, July 25, 2012.
