

Beloved mother, wife, and friend Irene Henry, 85, of Wichita died Sunday, October 11, 2015. Irene was born in Ransom County, North Dakota the sixth of twelve children of Anton and Helga Strander (Guttormson) on July 25, 1930.
She was a loving homemaker for her family, served as a Girl Scout troop leader, and volunteered her time for numerous area organizations. She loved playing guitar, piano, accordion, and singing in the Holy Cross Lutheran Church choir in Wichita. She enjoyed bowling and served on numerous teams and leagues in Wichita. She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed camping trips with her family and spending time outdoors.
Irene worked for several years as a medical records clerk for the Fargo Clinic in Fargo, ND, office manager for MK&W supply in Wichita, as well as a customer service representative for Sears and Spiegel in Wichita.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Benjamin; brothers Harry and Lloyd, sister Rusty, and daughter Julie Ann Henry. She is survived by daughters Denise (John) Lauffer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Leslie (Joseph) Myers of Wichita, and son David (Marie-Louise) of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; grandchildren October Dawn Penner, Tiffany Ellen Bonds, Jonathan True Lauffer, and David William Henry; great-grandchildren Madison Martinez, Olivia Bonds, and Jackson Penner; brothers Emery, Arnold, James, and Roger; sisters Carolyn Paulson, Ollie Griffin, Genevieve Siedschlag, and Vernie Jorgenson.
Visitation is from 5:00pm-7:00pm, Thursday, October 15 at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita. Funeral services are at 3:00pm Friday, October 16 also at Resthaven Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimers Association of Kansas www.alz.org
