

Jack Lee Shumard, 87, died December 13, 2016 at Meridian Rehabilitation and Heath Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born June 3, 1929 in Wellington, Kansas and grew up in Oxford Kansas. His parents were Walter Lee Shumard and Mary Louise (Welch) Shumard (Glenn). He is survived by: daughter, Kathy Mary Shumard Gow and son Craig James Shumard and his wife Stacy; grandchildren, Jessica Gow Rowell (Husband Adam), Marah Shumard, Claire Shumard and great granddaughter Riley Rowell. Jack grew up in the oil fields of Oxford with his parents, He graduate from WSU with a B.A. in education. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. 1951-1953, where he achieved the rank of captain. He served the Marine reserves until 1959. He married Barbara Jeanne Pinsford in San Diego Californian on August 22nd 1952. They moved back to Wichita where he attended WSU again with a B.S. in engineering. They had 2 children, Jack and Barbara lived together near Greenwich road and Pawnee road in rural Wichita until the tornado of 1991. They then moved to rural Derby Kansas, he eventually moved to Rose Hill Kansas. After his wife’s death in 2006 he met Phyllis Madden. They shared their lives together until 2014. Jack was an avid bird hunter and fisherman. He was active in the Boy Scouts for 20 years and loved work on Ford Model A’s. Funeral services will be 2pm on Sat. Dec. 17, 2016 with visitation one hour prior at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita.
