James "Ron" Ronald Albertson, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Ron was a WWII Veteran having served in United States Air Force. Preceded in death by his parents Roy and Cecelia (Taylor) Albertson and 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Survived by his loving wife of 76 years Doris of the home, son Jim (Malerie) Albertson, daughter Karen (James) Sutton, grandchildren Stacy Rans, Kurt Albertson, Carey Eyer, Camron Eyer and Amber Sutton, 5 great grandchildren.
Ron was one of seven children growing up on a farm near Republic, Kansas. At the age of 17, with two hundred dollars in his pocket, he hitchhiked from Republic to Wichita to make his way in this world. After several menial jobs he found a job that took him to Kentucky where he met and married Doris. WWII was on going and he decided to join the air force and became a nose gunner on a B-24. After surviving over 20 missions the war was abruptly ended and he and Doris made Wichita, Kansas home. While working with Midwestern Industries he was one of four men who designed and built 10 single engine V-tailed airplanes. A fire destroyed all but two of the planes which ended their dreams of getting into the aircraft business. One of the planes is at the Kansas Aviation Museum, here in Wichita. He then worked for Davis Manufacturing, J. I. Case and owned two more businesses, Albertson & Hein machine shop, and Import Electrical Rebuilders. Ron was a Shriner and was in the oriental band. Ron and Doris loved to boat, water ski, snow ski, and travel in their motor home. Ron was proud of the fact; they had traveled to all 50 states and all but one of Canada’s provinces. They also enjoyed travel abroad to many other countries. Ron’s life can be summed up in four words……Work hard, Play hard
