Jean D. Phelps

Phelps, Jean D., “J.D.”, loving dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, and uncle went to his heavenly home October 4, 2014. Born September 30, 1928 in Haileyville, Oklahoma, he was the son of Joseph Ira and Dora Ann Clark Phelps. J.D. retired from Boeing Wichita as a flight line mechanic and final inspector. He was actively involved with the IAM District 70, Local Lodge 834 Union and he served in the Air Force, stationed in the Philippines. J.D. and wife Jo Etta were foster parents for the KS Children’s Service League, taking care of little babies, giving them a good start in life. He was preceded in death by: his dear wife of 59 years, Jo Etta, granddaughter, Maggie, parents; Joseph Ira and Dora Ann, brothers; Joe and Luke, sisters; Nona and Peggy. He is survived by: daughters; Kathy and Jo Ann of Wichita, son; Mike of Dallas, GA, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family, and sister Irene Hancock of Garland. Funeral service will be held at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. Memorials may be sent to KS Children’s Service League and Interim Hospice Care.
