Jeffrey Wayne Newport passed from this life Friday, January 11, at the age of 57.

Born July 3, 1961 in Pittsburg, KS to Bill and Shirley Wydick Newport, he worked most of his life in Wichita as a house painter and a home repair and remodeling contractor.

Until moving to Haysville his freshman year of high school, he grew up and attended Carl Junction, MO schools. As a child and young teen in the Carl Junction area, he played sports often coached by his father and during summers worked for a local vegetable farm and orchard. In 1979, he graduated from Campus High School.

Jeff enjoyed fast cars, hunting, fishing and being on a river in his boat. He loved his children, all who survive him, including Dale Rhoads, Ivan Newport, and Nicole Newport, plus Darla Garcia, whom he counted as his own. He was a quick wit and patient man who loved to solve problems. He loved his entire family as evidenced by the many photos he displayed and kept at his home and he was always the first to mention the next family get together.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Clark and Vida Wydick and William and Neva Newport, he also was preceded in death by four aunts and seven uncles on his mother’s side of the family. Jeff is survived by his parents of Wichita, daughter Nicole and granddaughter Teagan of Ponca City. He is also survived by his siblings, Tamara Newport Love of Oklahoma City, Scott and GeaNell Newport of Indianapolis, and Shawn and Tammi Newport of Wichita; aunts and uncle Vida Lee Anderson of Cottage Grove, OR, Martha Miller of Auburn, WA and Jerry and Sara Newport of Pittsburg; nieces and nephews Lauren Love and Sarah Combs, sons Emerson and Everett, and Mackenzie and Joshua Majid of Oklahoma City, Nathan Newport and Beth Case, and Zachary and Jennifer Newport, sons Zander and Bretton of Indianapolis, and Sierra and Wade Wilson, children Kailey, Kohen, Kaisyn, Shaelyn Martinez and Neil Tull, Easton and Lilly, and Regan Awtrey; and many family and friends. It was always a great feeling seeing Jeff's smiling face at Sierra's soccer games, softball games, birthday parties, and family get-togethers. He was a wonderful Uncle, showing his true spirit and love by cheering for Sierra or singing aloud a big "Happy Birthday!" Jeff and I shared a lot, and had a unique bond of understanding each other and what life is like as addicts. My heart goes out to his family, I know they have been right there to help him fight his battles. I know he is now at peace, no more pain, no more fighting...he is now in a perfect world with God-smiling bigger than ever!
