Jimmy Nielsen

Jimmy was born on August 3, 1946, in Winnsboro, Louisiana, to Thomas Christian Sr. and Lela Nielsen. He was raised in Winnsboro alongside his seven siblings. From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic and an appreciation for family that remained an important part of who he was.

Jimmy married Brenda on January 6, 1989. For more than 37 years, they shared life side by side, building a life centered around love and family, creating countless memories, and raising a family they were incredibly proud of.

Jimmy retired after many years of dedicated service with Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems. Outside of work, he devoted many years to hospital ministry, offering his time, compassion, and support to others. In his free time, Jimmy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and simply “piddling” around, always finding something to keep himself busy.

Those who knew Jimmy will remember him for his sense of humor, his love of joking around, and his playful habit of pestering waitresses for “sugar-free water.” Above all, Jimmy loved his family deeply and held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him tremendous joy.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Nielsen; his six children and their families; his grandchildren; and his great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Christian Sr. and Lela Nielsen; his son, Jimmy; and five of his siblings.

The family will receive friends for visitation and viewing on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Resthaven Mortuary & Gardens of Memory.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Pentecostal Church, 1755 E. MacArthur Rd., Wichita, KS 67216. Entombment will follow the funeral service in procession to Resthaven Mortuary & Gardens of Memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Jimmy’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association to support individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Donations may be made through Jimmy’s memorial page at events.alz.org/s/12398/12245.

Jimmy’s family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who went before. His faith was an important part of his life, and the family takes comfort in the promise of eternal life.
